Production
On the day of shooting our opening sequence, we used different technologies to achieve our finishing product:
-
Black Magic Camera
This camera was good to use for a number of reasons. Firstly the quality of the camera is very high, meaning the lens was able to capture the low lighting as we filmed our scene in a basement with very dark, minimal lighting. If we used a cheaper/ lower quality camera, the depth of field would probably not be captures as well as it was. Because we shot in a long corridor, the cameras quality was able to capture it all and allow us to see both characters clearly. Another reason this camera was good to use is because it is digital it was easy to move around. The basement which we filmed in was limited in space and cramped, meaning if we used another camera such a film one it would of been difficult to move around and would of been heavy. The black magic was very easy to transport, quick to set up and close down and was very simple to use.
-
Microphone
The microphone we used was a directional microphone on a boom poll which we pointed at the direction of sound. This was good because it allowed you to get closer to where the sound was coming from. This was effective because it picked up on detailed sound. We connected this to the camera using a cable during the
filming process so the digetic sound was synched for the editing process.

Soft box lighting kit and red head lighting with coloured gels
On the day of production, the school electrician turned the power out in
the basement for us which meant we had to light the place up oursevles.
We mainly used lights on the floor tilting upwards and put coloured gels
over the top. We matched the coloured gels to the atmosphere of we
were trying to create for the scene. For example, at the very start of the
scene, we used a red coloured gel to set the tone of a dangerous, scary
place. We used the red head lighting with a blue gel to shine light into a window in the basement. We did this just to get a bit of light shining through the basement as it was so dark.
-
Iphone torch light
Although we already had the other lights, our location was very dark, so
in some shots we needed that extra little bit of light. The torches from our
phones were perfect to use because they are small and therefore easy to
move around and hold. We were able to direct the light just where we
wanted it and the torch also has a setting to adjust its brightness which
allowed us to get the perfect lighting for our shots.
